The (Space) Force Awakens
Last night, the President signed the National Defense Authorization Act ("NDAA") for Fiscal Year 2020 at Joint Base Andrews. The 2020 NDAA creates the the U.S. Space Force, the sixth branch of the U.S. military. The Space Force is America's first new military service since the passing of the National Security Act of 1947, which created the U.S. Air Force from the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Given that the creation of the Space Force will have a major impact on National defense spending and government contracting, I have highlighted some of the relevant provisions in the 2020 NDAA to provide clarity on the establishment of America's newest military service.
Note: Congress approved $40 million for Space Force operations for FY2020.

SpacePolicyOnline – With Creation of Space Force Just a Signature Away, What Happens Next
"Congress and Secretary of Defense (SecDef) Mark Esper seem to be taking a cautious approach. The NDAA requires that the Secretary of the Air Force establish Space Force within 18 months of the bill’s enactment — which means not until summer 2021. The final version of the FY2020 Defense Appropriations bill, which passed the House today and is expected to clear the Senate this week, provides only $40 million for Space Force. That is about half the $72.4 million requested."

"WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Dec. 20 signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020. The bill creates the U.S. Space Force as the sixth branch of the U.S. armed forces. Trump signed the NDAA flanked by top defense and military officials at a ceremony at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland."
