GovConJudicata Weekly Debrief (7/10–14)

This week's Weekly Debrief covers TMF funding, 2024 NDAA, Pentagon's solution to Discord leaks, and Space Force's next phase of national security launch services.

Congress

  • "The Senate Appropriations Committee passed a bill out of committee on Thursday that would rescind $290 million from the Technology Modernization Fund as lawmakers work on crafting government funding bills that fit into the debt ceiling deal reached earlier this year, which capped non-defense discretionary spending."

  • "The House on Friday narrowly passed its version of the fiscal 2024 defense authorization bill after Republicans secured several partisan amendments on hot-button social issues, prompting almost every Democrat to vote against it."

Defense

  • "The Defense Department is moving to improve oversight of personnel with access to classified information, appoint “top secret control officers” and establish a joint office for insider threats after a junior Air National Guardsman allegedly leaked troves of highly classified data on the Discord website."

  • "The Space Force’s solicitation for the next phase of national security launches will likely seek to distribute its most demanding missions among three providers, a change of course from its plan to choose just two companies to meet its space lift requirements."
