Cyber
"Language calling for a national cyber director within the Executive Office of the President is included in a final 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, which the House will soon vote on, according to Rep. Jim Langevin, D-R.I. In an interview with Nextgov, Langevin said the House will vote next week on the $740.5 billion defense bill that is chock full of cybersecurity provisions that will affect all agencies."
Defense
"It’s a significant week for the Defense Department’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification program: New rules that serve as a precursor to the full CMMC implementation took effect on Tuesday, and an announcement of the first 15 contracts that will serve as “pathfinders” for the new model are imminent."
"The Pentagon’s $11.7 billion network consolidation contract and a “crown jewel” of the defense department’s IT reform efforts is expected to be released next week after a two-month delay, a defense official told reporters Thursday."
Acquisition
"Efforts to improve contract data must be led by the Office of Management and Budget, if its category management initiative is to improve, according to the Government Accountability Office. GAO found OMB‘s category management initiative focused too much on how to buy things — at the expense of helping agencies determine what goods and services they actually need — when it assessed data for 28 agencies, reviewed guidance for four and interviewed officials."
